ABOUT

ABOUT

The company was founded in 2007 by Managing Director Trevor White following 18 years' service at William Hare, one of the UK's leading independent structural steel fabricators, culminating in promotion to Engineering Office Manager.

This invaluable experience provided an extensive in-depth knowledge of construction and structural steelwork, temporary works and temporary stability, both primary and end connection design, fabrication methods and a detailed understanding of what makes the most cost-effective end connection details, thereby increasing value for the client.

After leaving William Hare and forming T. White Structural Services, the company undertook a series of project-based contracts for multi-discipline consultancies before expanding the company's client base to also include consultancy work for industrial steel fabricators, builders and residential clients.

Now in its 16th year, the company has grown to include much larger projects and due to increased demand from our clients, we now offer the benefits of our expertise, via either one-off or ongoing training as required.  Explore how we can add value to your business and help your profits grow by using our contact box, email us or use our live chat feature.

Scope

  • Temporary stability analysis, temporary steel layout, sizing and end details.

  • Steel and pc unit sequencing, in keeping with temporary stability checks.

  • End connection design to consulting engineer's loading and those derived from the temporary stability analysis.

  • Column base plate and HD bolt design to consulting engineer's loading and those derived from the temporary stability analysis / freestanding checks.

Innovations / Client Benefits Gained

  • Using advanced modelling techniques for the temporary stability analysis that enabled quicker and more accurate assessments, resulting in less temporary bracing and restraint steelwork - shortening the site programme.

  • Maximising temporary tee section moment capacities by using LTBeamN.

  • Employing automated mark-up tools on layouts - minimising the variety of connection types required, thereby maximising repetition for fabrication.

Scope

  • End connection design to consulting engineer's loading, including:

    • Rolled and plate girder beam sections to inclined CHS columns.

    • Details with high tying loading - occasionally prompting query and subsequent reclassification of the primary members as key elements.

    • Beam and vertical bracing details with welded stubs due to high shear.

    • Connections to 1050 wide x 470 deep plate girder beams.

Innovations / Client Benefits Gained

  • Submitting 3D pdfs and coloured mark-ups for connections with complex geometry - offering greater support in addition to the usual 2D layouts.

  • Using macros to expedite 2D sketch preparation - resulting in a quicker turnaround of calcs and helping to shorten the detailing programme.

  • Utilising the detailing 3D model file for set out and to develop complex connections in 3D as part of the calc production process - ensuring viability.

Scope

  • Temporary works scheme design for a three-arch cable-stayed footbridge

  • Primary and end connection design covering each stage of construction.

  • Design of the rigging arrangement and lifting beams required for the final lift of the entire assembled footbridge across Network Rail lines.

  • Meetings with Network Rail to present and discuss the scope for sign off.

  • Production of Design Risk Assessment and review of Work Package Plans.

Innovations / Client Benefits Gained

  • Adapting the consulting engineer's Oasys GSA model for a staged analysis of the temporary works, expediting client reviews using common geometry.

  • Applying deck presets using a devised 'pegged' adjustable packing system.

  • Creating a steel layout that maximised section reuse across the three spans.

  • Developing the rigging and lifting beam arrangement using a Tekla detailing licence - ensuring design accuracy and shortening the detailing programme.
